Fire For Water
Cold eyes with hardened voice come from the darkness
To absorb her frail and shivering body.
She is buried in his massiveness --
Not as a shelter from evil, but as a haven for it.
Even a thin sheet could protect her nakedness
From being frozen into a huddled nothingness.
She fears suffocation as the already black room
Grows darker and creeps within.
The isolation seeps and drips into the pure, sweet waters.
The mist chills as the silent scream grows in her ears.
How can one so small satisfy one so consuming?
Tossing under the blanket that she once thought would shield
She relives the angry sweat a thousand times.
The dark emptiness has turned into the fury of hell.
Each second feels like an inescapable eternal torment
And she trembles as the memory
Burns deeper in her flammable soul.
The charcoal hopes reek of anguish as
The dancing flames celebrate eminent victory as they lure her fragile shell.
She walks slowly toward the fire that is so cold and dark that
She will never forget.
